1. About this Platform

GALGO (Golden Age Literature Glossary Online) is an academic digital humanities platform developed and maintained by Nuria Alonso García and Alison Caplan in support of teaching and research in Romantic-era Spanish literature at Providence College. Access is granted to enrolled students, faculty collaborators, and invited researchers.

2. Permitted Use

You may use this platform solely for lawful academic purposes, including:

  • Reading and annotating course texts assigned by your instructor.
  • Consulting the glossary in connection with coursework or research.
  • Contributing annotations and contextual notes as part of your academic work.

You may not use the platform for any commercial purpose, redistribute course materials without authorization, attempt to circumvent access controls, or use automated tools to scrape or harvest content in bulk.

3. User Accounts

Accounts are created by invitation only. You are responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of your credentials and for all activity that occurs under your account. You must notify the platform administrators immediately if you suspect unauthorized use of your account. Accounts may be suspended or terminated if these terms are violated.

4. User-Generated Content

Annotations, notes, and other content you submit remain your own. By submitting content, you grant the platform administrators a limited, non-exclusive license to display that content to other authorized users of the same project, solely for academic purposes. You are responsible for ensuring that anything you contribute does not infringe third-party rights or violate applicable law.

Public annotations (those created by professors) may be visible to all users who have access to the relevant text. Private annotations are visible only to you and your instructors.

5. Intellectual Property

The glossary content, annotations, and editorial commentary on this platform are the intellectual property of their respective authors. Primary texts are reproduced under applicable fair use / fair dealing provisions for educational purposes. Where texts are in the public domain, no additional restriction is imposed by these terms.

The GALGO platform software is proprietary. You may not copy, modify, or redistribute the platform code without written permission from the administrators.

6. Disclaimers

This platform is provided “as is” for academic use. The administrators make no warranty, express or implied, regarding its availability, accuracy, or fitness for any particular purpose. The platform may be taken offline for maintenance, updates, or at the end of an academic term without prior notice.

7. Limitation of Liability

To the fullest extent permitted by applicable law, the platform administrators shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, or consequential damages arising from your use of, or inability to use, this platform — including loss of data, interruption of access, or any errors in platform content.

8. Changes to These Terms

These terms may be updated periodically. Continued use of the platform after a revision constitutes acceptance of the updated terms. Material changes will be announced via email to registered users.

9. Contact

Questions about these terms should be directed to the course instructor or project administrator at Providence College.
